Our Classes

Each class lasts for two hours. This provides you with  an opportunity to learn new skills and practise them on the sewing machines available for you to use during the class.

There are a maximum of 8 students in our classes. Two teachers ensure there is adequate opportunity for you to get the individual assistance you need.

Introduction to Sewing

Our 5 week  Introduction to Sewing Course is available in two streams: Sewing for Your Children and Sewing for Yourself. You can learn all the basic skills you need for sewing by making beautiful accessories and clothing. Our introduction to sewing courses cost $250

Some of the skills you will develop include:
  • Laying out and accurately cutting patterns
  • Basic sewing machine skills
  • Basic embroidery and appliqué skills
  • French seaming and other techniques to finish your projects professionally
  • Top stitching
  • Zippers
  • Cutting and using bias tape

Sewing for Your Children

Week 1
Introduction to the sewing machine.  You will make a length of bunting - perfect for  a party or for decorating your child’s bedroom.

Weeks 2 and 3
You will learn how to appliqué directly onto t-shirts and how to make a pair of pants. There is a variety of appliqué patterns to choose from or, if you are feeling creative, you can design your own.  The pants pattern is unisex and easy to alter – you can add cuffs, pockets or ruffles.

Weeks 4 and 5
Your favourite little girl will look truly divine in a pillowslip dress made especially for her.  You can customise this dress to create a variety of different looks.  Sleeves, ruffles, appliqué and bows are all options.

Sewing for Yourself

Week 1
Introduction to the sewing machine.  You will make double sided serviettes.  Choose fabric to complement your kitchen and dining room.

Weeks 2 and 3
You will learn how to make a zippered purse and tote bag.  We will also teach you how to  appliqué so you will be able to personalise the front of your bag.

Weeks 4 and 5
In this session you will learn to make an A-line skirt. We will take your measurements in week one and provide you with a pattern drafted just for you.  We will show you some great ways to insert zippers and how to line your skirt if you choose.

New! Open Studio

This  four week series focuses on negotiating commercial patterns through using them with a little bit of extra guidance.  We have chosen a number of women's and children's patterns which we believe are perfect for the 'experienced beginner'.  You can choose any or all of these patterns and come and spend a couple of hours with us each week and we will help you work your way through them.  This series is super flexible - you can choose what you want to make.  You'll also be inspired by seeing what others are sewing around you.  This course costs $180 for four weeks.

Workshops

Once you have completed an Introduction to Sewing course, our monthly workshops will help you further develop your sewing skills and discover more exciting craft projects to create. Each workshop is completed in a single 2 hour class.

Our workshops include:
  • ruffle skirts for little girls
  • peasant tops for girls
  • back packs for children
  • pack a lunch - snack bags and insulated drink and lunch bags
  • double sided, bound placemats
  • burp cloths, bibs and bandannas
  • storage ideas - fabric baskets and bags
  • Christmas stockings and Santa sacks

For some of our workshops you do not need to have completed an introductory sewing course. These classes concentrate on simple but effective hand sewing and embroidery techniques. These classes are great fun for a group of friends to do together.

These workshops include:
  • birthday party crowns and brooches
  • hair clips, elastics and clip holders
  • Christmas ornaments

Fabric kits are available for each workshop.  The cost of these kits vary from $10-$4o, depending on the requirements for the project.

You are more than welcome to bring your own fabric and notions if you do not wish to purchase a kit. Please let us know in advance so that we can provide you with a list of materials .
